Exploiting Sanford for 2010

Lost somewhere amid the Sanford 2012/Sanford Stimulus talk is a fundamental question Democrats in SC should be asking themselves.

How can the party best exploit Sanford's plummeting approval ratings against whomever the GOP nominates to take his place in 2010?

Dems should be leveraging his stasis to begin framing a philosophical argument for the state house.

Laurin Manning writes:

.... the Democratic nominee — whoever he or she may turn out to be — ought to be running against Mark Sanford right now.... This is a keen opportunity for some breakthrough leadership in the Palmetto State. The case against Sanford-style governing needs to be being made, and it needs to be made now....

Timing is everything in politics. Mark Sanford knows this (and capitalizes on it) better than anyone. It’s time for a leader among Democrats to step up and leverage the opportunity Sanford has created for someone to articulate a clear alternative to him.
