One week! Gingrich encouraged by GOP's direction (and Steele)

It took approximately 6 days for GOP leadership to sell Newt Gingrich on the party's future.

April 2.2009:

"If the Republicans can’t break out of being the right wing party of big government, then I think you would see a third party movement in 2012.”

April 8. 2009:

"I think the Republican Party's going to offer a series of solutions that are going to very powerful. With Congressman (John) Boehner's leadership the House Republicans, last week, offered a budget that was half as expensive as the Democratic budget and created twice as many new jobs.... There are a lot of Republicans who are fed up with business as usual. But I see what John Boehner's doing in the House and what Mitch McConnell's doing in the Senate as very encouraging and I think you're seeing the emergence of a much more idea-oriented and solutions-oriented party."

On Michael Steele:

"Michael Steele's got a lot to learn. I think it was a huge jump from being an analyst to a leader of a national party. But he's smart, he's aggressive, and I think he very sincerely wants to create a broad-based majority party, and that's a good thing."
