Over the weekend, The Times-Picayune reported that an inchoate PAC (the Jindal for President Draft Council) was being formed by Bobby Jindal supporters, and just yesterday, a leader of the group said it would raise $60 million for a Presidential bid and establish field operations across America.
Now word comes that Bobby Jindal wants the group to commit political action committee suicide:
Dan Kyle, an officer in the "Jindal for President Draft Council," confirmed Tuesday that the governor's organization has asked that the draft efforts be halted. The letter from campaign organization treasurer Robert Yarborough - and a later statement by Jindal communications director Melissa Sellers - said the presidential draft effort would distract from the governor's work.
The group was fraught with some early difficulties. One of the chief organizers claimed the Jindal team knew about and supported the effort.
Not so, said a Bobby Jindal spokesman, who seemed to write on the wall that the gov. would soon ask the group to commit the political action committee suicide.
"It's flattering, but the governor does not support this effort. This is a distraction from the critical issues that we face, and the governor will not be involved in any capacity."
Then there was the issue of who was leading what. At first, a relative of Jindal's (his mother-in-law's brother) was listed as one of the leaders, but was asked to step down.
Another listed officer was Tom Schedler, who happens to be Louisiana's Assistant Secretary of State. He also removed himself from the group.
