Meg Whitman, Republican candidate for governor, today announced that she has contributed $15 million to her campaign, a 3-for-1 match on the first $5 million donated by supporters during the first reporting period ended June 30.

During that period, Whitman raised more than $6.7 million, far exceeding the campaign's $5 million goal announced in April.

"Meg wanted to show her donors that she is as equally committed to fixing California and winning this election as they are," said senior campaign advisor Henry Gomez. "She is deeply grateful for all the support she is receiving."

Whitman's first reporting period total reached just over $6.7 million, 85 percent of which was raised from Californians. The campaign showed particular fundraising strength in Los Angeles, Orange and San Diego counties, and in the Central Valley and San Francisco Bay Area. Whitman's strength in the Bay Area is particularly encouraging given that her Republican opponents are from there as well.
