Jim DeMint responds to George Voinovich's prickly angst that the GOP is run by southerners.
From AskYourLawmaker.org.
Demint.... says Voinovich's jab at "southerners" is hard to justify. Demint specifically named Tennessee's Bob Corker and Lamar Alexander as two southern Republicans who work across the aisle.
“I mean these guys are great team players up here. So I think maybe that is misdirected, but I’ll let him clarify that if he would like."
DeMint's right. Let's go to the smoking gun numbers.
In the National Journal's 2008 Senate rankings, Bob Corker placed as only the 27th most conservative member of the Senate, while his senior colleague, Lamar Alexander, ranked 25th.
To compare, DeMint was 5th.
Now let's check out CQ's Politics' recent vote study. In 2009, Lamar Alexander has voted with his party only 81% of the time, while Bob Corker has voted with the GOP 86% of the time.
Let's compare that with the trinity of conservatism. Jim DeMint voted with his party 99% of the time, Jon Kyl 94%, and Tom Coburn 99%.
Corker and Alexander might not be the Maine sisters, but they're certainly not lock-step partisans.
