The National Journal polls a list of insiders about the effect Sarah Palin might have on candidates she campaigns for in 2010.
Not surprisingly, there was a partisan divide.
By 59%-38%, Democrats said she would be more of a liability than an asset. And by 53%-42%, Republican insiders said she would be more of an asset.
Next, two key comments -- one for each point of view.
Sarah Palin as an asset.
"Democrats and independents don't attend Republican fundraisers."
Sarah Palin as a liability.
"She's great with the GOP base, but like [Rush] Limbaugh and [Newt] Gingrich, she's poison with independent voters."
Two pretty accurate statements, considering this and this. The best bet might be to confine her to appearances early on in a general election, so the candidate gets some of that $, but without a Palin-narrative dominating the last few weeks.
