Two new polls aren't looking great for Sarah Palin
A new CNN/Opinion Research poll shows 71% of Americans think Sarah Palin isn't qualified to be President, with a whopping 47% of Republicans agreeing.
In the same survey, her favorability number is at -9%, which is actually significantly higher than a new NBC/WSJ poll (pdf) showing Palin at a 27%/46% split, for -29%.
Still, 22% of Americans say they're neutral towards Palin, which indicates some opportunity to grow.
At the same time, the percentage of Americans who feel "very negative" about her is in Pelosian territory at 32%. Barack Obama's "very negative" rating hasn't been as high in any NBC poll, at any point in his career.
But there is one upside for Palin in CNN's poll.
Nearly two-thirds of those questioned say Palin's not a typical politician, and feel she's a good role model for women.
Fifty-six percent add that Palin cares about people, and a similar amount think she's honest and trustworthy. But the survey indicates Americans are split over whether Palin shares their values, agrees with them on the issues, or if she's a strong leader.
That being noted, Palin's climb will be tough. The primary way she could have proven her qualifications was by staying in Alaska and finishing her term, or preferably, running for another.
Of course, the meme developing around Palin is that she's not a typical politician. And that's true. Most first-term governors stick around, and that's the most significant portion of her resume that's likely to stick to her if she runs in 2012.
