According to ABC's Kate Snow, John McCain held a conference call last week with some former top aides from the campaign to counsel them on how to handle Sarah Palin's book.
The gist: Avoid controversy, if possible. Defend, if necessary.
An aide:
"Said something like ‘You are all my dear friends. This will pass. It’ll pass faster if everyone will just stay out of it'.”
"This will pass" immediately evokes two passages with similar language -- Matchbox 20's song "Last beautiful girl" and the gospel of Mark, chapter 13:31.
Matchbox 20 and the Bible don't often intersect, so you make a mental note when they do.
