Palin hints at backing Rubio?

Rich Lowry and Robert Costa on just one of the highlights from a very juicy National Review i/view with Sarah Palin.

She suggests, meanwhile, that there might be encouraging news coming Marco Rubio’s way.

She says she’s had a chance to look at the Crist-Rubio race “just on the surface.” But she adds, “I’m just being asked about it really in the last week or two, so I’ll dig more into it. I’ll find out what the guys are holding in terms of positions and see where maybe I can help.”

The Palin-Rubio fit seems perfect. Endorsing him won't be anything like her bombshell in NY-23. After all, Rubio's a Republican and has already been endorsed by Mike Huckabee and Jim DeMint. But there's no doubt a Palin plug would give him an extra kick.

As for the rest, John Thune threw his support to Charlie Crist in May. Mitt Romney's staying out for now, and so is Tim Pawlenty.

Suggestion to T-Paw: If Palin backs Rubio, don't endorse him the next day.

One more thing. What about Newt?

At an October 26 book-signing in southwest Florida, he wasn't giving any hints.

Reporter: Speaker, why don't you tell us who do you like for the Florida Senate race?

Newt: Well, I think they're both fine people.

I've worked with Governor Crist for many years, and I've worked with Speaker Marco Rubio. It's going to be an interesting choice. Marco Rubio's a very aggressive, very articulate conservative. Governor Crist is a very solid political figure.

I think that Florida's very fortunate to have that kind of a primary. Those are both very good people.
