Another bit from that new USC/Los Angeles Times poll (pdf), released Sunday.
It shows Californians supporting same-sex marriage in their state, 51-43%.
But there's a hint that there could be some social desirability in that response.
The next question:
Regardless of whether you approve or disapprove of same-sex marriage, do you think it is an issue that Californians should vote on again in 2010, or would you prefer to see the issue left alone and off the ballot for a few years?
Vote again in 2010: 41%
Leave it alone and off the ballot for a few years: 56%
So while some might "agree" it's a civil rights issue, they just don't seem to think it's that important of one.
The difference is especially glaring among indies.
By 10%, independents think gay marriage in California should be legal, but by 21%, they think it should be left off the ballot for a few years.
