Looks like that memo Republican Illinois Senate candidate, Mark Kirk, sent to GOP heavy and Palin-friend, Fred Malek, is turning out to be a hot potato.
His Democratic opponents are using it to paint Kirk as a flip-flopper and prohibitively conservative for Illinois, while his Republican opponent, Patrick Hughes, is backing up the flip-flop claim, but using it as a way of buttressing his own conservative creds.
Hughes:
"In a desperate attempt to prove otherwise, he is seeking the endorsement of Sarah Palin, a true Reagan conservative, to help disguise his liberal voting record."
Kirk might not have gotten into this mess if he hadn't famously questioned whether Palin was qualified to be President if a heartbeat took her there.
"Quite frankly, I don't know."
The unfortunate thing for Palin is that she's once again at the crucible of a nasty political fight, except this time she's done nothing to solicit it.
How many of these wars are we going to see based on hypothetical Palin endorsements?
Sarah Palin and Barack Obama could meet before 2012. Expect the 2010 elections to revolve around those two names, above all others.
