Hutchison: Why only 30,000?

Kay Bailey Hutchison wonders where the extra 10,000 troops General McChrystal wanted went.

“I’m not sure why President Obama is not giving General McChrystal the 40,000 troops he asked for.

Hopefully he will ask NATO for the other 10,000 — a move I would support. They need to step up to the plate and the president now needs to apply some pressure.”

The general Republican talking points tonight: Better late than never, but speaking of time, why set a timetable?

The "dithering" argument is a cheap, partisan blow to prove anti-Obama bona fides.

The timetable question is much more serious and quite legitimate. It's too bad that in insisting on the first attack, the second is diluted. At some point, attacks lose their efficacy. It's kind of like fertilizing your lawn. There's a law of diminishing returns there.
