Incognito or inconsiderate?

TMZ catches Sarah Palin vacationing in Hawaii and wearing a John McCain visor with the "John McCain" blacked out (pics here).

The website called it a "searing political comment", but Palin told Politico she blacked it out to go "incognito", and issued a hearty statement of support for John McCain.

“I am so sorry if people took this silly incident the wrong way. I adore John McCain, support him 100 percent and will do everything I can to support his reelection. As everyone knows, I was honored and proud to run with him. And Todd and I were with him in D.C. just a week ago. So much for trying to be incognito."

You know what doesn't make a lot of sense? TMZ or Palin. First, Palin's been nothing but respectful in all her personal statements about John McCain and doesn't seem to harbor ill-will toward him.

But on the other hand, Palin thinks crossing out "John McCain" on her visor will shield her from paparazzi?

How does crossing out a tiny "John McCain" on a tiny visor deter the photographers who were supposedly chased away? These must be intern paparazzi. It's like if Tom Cruise took off his Ray-Bans and could suddenly walk unmolested through Hollywood.

And if she was really worried about what the paparazzi might do, why would she even wear the visor? And if she second-guessed herself while at the beach, why not just take it off?

There's nothing sundry here -- it's just weird.
