Rio gets Rudy

Ever since we learned Rio De Janeiro had landed the 2016 Summer Olympics, there have been concerns about safety, thanks to the city's high crime rate.

Now the city's doing something about that.

Earth Times:

The government of the Brazilian state of Rio de Janeiro has hired former New York City Mayor Rudolph Giuliani for advice on security issues ahead of the 2016 Olympics and the 2014 football World Cup.

Governor Sergio Cabral met with Giuliani, who had travelled to Rio at the request of private companies, Thursday.

.... "He will help us with a view to the football World Cup and the Olympic Games," Cabral said.

Giuliani's security consultancy firm was officially set to be hired in January.
