The muzzling of former New Mexico Gov. Gary Johnson's ambitions continues.
Here's an i/view (audio here) with Alan Colmes from December 24 that slipped thru the cracks. Consider it a default dance for the next year.
COLMES: Because of your initiation of this group [under the 501(c)(4) umbrella], there's been all this flurry of talk about you as a potential candidate on the Presidential stage. I know you're not making any commitments, but you understand why there's speculation about that, right?
JOHNSON: Well, yeah, we did form Our AmericaInitiative.com. It is a 501(c)(4), so it's part of that. I can't comment on running for any federal office, but I'm really excited about the fact that raising money and allowing me to speak out on issues of the day. There could be worse things, I think.
COLMES: Are you doing this with an eye toward testing the waters, seeing if there might be interest in you as a national candidate?
JOHNSON: You know, again, back to the 501(c)(4) -- the inability to talk about...
COLMES: [interrupting] Are you hidin' behind that?
JOHNSON: Well, I don't know if I'd have signed the legislation, but that is what I'm operating under, so it'll be really interesting to see if these issues do resonate with people.
I think that they will. I am a Republican. I believe they will resonate with Republicans.
On a related note, Libertarian Republican reports that Johnson's former campaign manager -- Doug Turner -- is running for governor of New Mexico with his old boss' enthusiastic backing.
