The Orlando-Sentinel has been badgering Charlie Crist and Marco Rubio to respond to Tom Tancredo's tea party convention comments on literacy tests for voters.
So far, Rubio's no-commented, while Crist spokeswoman Andrea Saul replied today:
“Tom Tancredo was a good Republican Congressman who served his district well; however, this is one issue Gov. Crist does not agree with him on.”
Rubio's no comment is politically-expedient in Florida's environment. He might be cautious about hitting a tea party leader, but literacy tests probably wouldn't sit well with Florida's diversity.
One aside the Sentinel pointed out last weekend: Rubio and Tancredo aren't exactly bff's.
In 2007, Rubio referred to Tancredo as [a] “paid clown,” after Tancredo called Miami a “Third World country.”
