Whitman: Murphy's email meant to "unite" GOP

Team Steve Poizner is passing around this clip from Meg Whitman's interview with California station KFWB yesterday.

Subject? Poizner's dramatic press conference on Feb 1, where he unveiled an email from Whitman adviser, Mike Murphy, trying to talk Poizner out of a run (pdf email here).

KFWB: First of all, were you aware and did you condone that email from Murphy, and do you agree with its contents still?

Do you think it violates state election codes in any way?

WHITMAN: So I knew what Mike was trying to do, which was to unite the Republican party around a person around that is winning, and you know, but Steve is, of course, I'm more than happy to have Steve run.

[A bit later]

KFWB: And there have been some half-serious questions within Republican circles and even people connected to your campaign, about Poizner's mental stability following this episode.

Do you think he has a stability issue?

WHITMAN: I think -- as I said -- Scott [Herhold, newspaper columnist]: said it well: "I think his reservoir of common sense may have deserted him".

If you remember -- Mike Murphy's response to Poizner's charge:

.... all I can say is that I'm starting to worry about [the] Commissioner's mental condition.

And everyone thought the Texas gubernatorial race was going to be the hot one.
