Pawlenty: Fed a "financial drug dealer"

Greta Van Susteren introduced Tim Pawlenty to her show Monday night by calling his recent challenge to ObamaCare a "stunning and bold move" (music to T-Paw and Co's ears).

Pawlenty then explained his move.

"I and a lot of other people have had it. The federal government's acting increasingly like a financial drug dealer, handing out tastes and free samples, trying to get people further addicted, and we've just had it. We're not taking the bait anymore, we're not taking the free samples anymore.

This is an executive order that says we're sending them a strong message, but we're also gonna try to make sure the policies are for Minnesota; not because some big federal bureaucracy tells us what to do."

Later, Susteren asked T-Paw about a letter his PAC sent today that praised his challenge to ObamaCare and finished with a pitch for money "to help elect candidates in 2010 who will fight ObamaCare."

VAN SUSTEREN: You're gettin' heat for that.

PAWLENTY: Yeah, well I get heat for everything. From the PAC's standpoint, I wasn't aware that they had done that, but we didn't decide this for any political purposes. We decided this -- in my official office -- for policy reasons.

It's consistent with the kinds of beliefs I've had for 20 years, so this is not some new thing we just cooked up the other day.
