House GOP Conference Chairman and 2012 prospect, Mike Pence, says a Republican majority's first order of business would be extending the Bush tax cuts.
The Hill:
Pence's assertion adds to the litany of pledges the GOP has made to voters as the fall's midterm elections approach. Republicans have made taxes a key part of their electoral assault against Democrats, who largely (led by President Obama) favor extending the tax cuts except for the wealthiest earners.
Btw, Pence has been fairly single-minded in how he wants the GOP to frame these elections.
Earlier this month, he told David Brody that Republicans should keep the focus on issues.
"I don't think that we should engage in personal attacks against either the president of the United States or candidates for office.
But I think that we should vigorously attack the big government liberal policies of this administration..."
I read Brinkley's bio of Henry Luce this summer, and interestingly enough, he took the same approach to FDR, whom he despised.
He told some colleagues at Time that attacking FDR was "somewhat akin" to attacking the American flag and warned that it would backfire. Have times changed?
