Mitt Romney, after being asked on The View whether his Mormonism might hinder his shot at the 2012 GOP nomination.
"The great majority of Americans understand that this country was founded on the principle of religious tolerance and liberty, so most people don't make their decision based on someone's faith.
But you don't worry about that. If you get caught up in all the things people might say about you or might disagree with you on, why, you can get awfully tied up.
So tell people what you believe, and if they accept you, terrific.
You are what you are."
While we're on the topic, Public Policy Polling (pdf) found that 39% of likely GOP voters in South Carolina have an unfavorable opinion of Mormonism, while 23% viewed it favorably, and 38% weren't sure.
