A new University of Texas/Texas Tribune poll shows Rick Perry only getting 4% in a hypothetical homestate primary.
1. Sarah Palin 12%
2. Newt Gingrich 11%
3. Mike Huckabee, Ron Paul 10%
5. Mitt Romney and Michele Bachmann 7%
7. Donald Trump 6%
8. Rick Perry and Tim Pawlenty 4%
10. Rick Santorum 3%
11. Jon Huntsman and Mitch Daniels 1%
This isn't the first poll to show Perry struggling in his home state.
A January Public Policy Polling survey showed him tied up with Barack Obama in a TX general election primary; whereas, all the other major GOP contenders led the POTUS.
Still, I don't think Perry's struggles in his home state are as severe as the numbers indicate.
The Texas Tribune:
It's still early, cautions Jim Henson, who teaches government at UT, runs the Texas Politics Project and co-directs the poll. He doesn't think Perry's numbers are a big deal. "At this point, he's clearly not seen as a candidate," he says.
