McCotter drops out of presidential primary

Thaddeus McCotter has dropped out of the Republican presidential primary, his office announced Thursday, according to The Detroit News.

The Michigan newspaper reports that McCotter will throw his support behind Mitt Romney and plans to run for reelection in his congressional district.

Since McCotter jumped into the presidential race in July he's lagged far behind his Republican competitors in the polls and failed to be invited to any of the Republican presidential debates.
