The Boston Herald reports on the findings of a new Beacon Hill Institute study on some of RomneyCare's consequences for health care in Massachusetts.
On average, Romneycare:
• cost the Bay State 18,313 jobs;
• drove up total health insurance costs in Massachusetts by $4.311 billion;
• slowed the growth of disposable income per person by $376; and
• reduced investment in Massachusetts by $25.06 million.
It goes without saying that these findings will probably work themselves into a debate. There are quite a few studies (Cato's is probably the most comprehensive and careful) showing similarly bad results, but this one has the advantage of being the newest, un-shiniest one in the garage.
