Gingrich ties himself to Herman Cain

Newt Gingrich was fond of saying "Herman and I" on Fox News last night.

"Herman and I, you know, we go back to fighting HillaryCare together in the early '90's.

Herman and I both have had to try to enter this race with positive ideas, positive attitude. We're both basically very happy to be allowed to be here.

We think it's amazing that in America, people like us are allowed to run for president, and we don't have any sense of expectation, so we're not there, thinking it's ours and that you have to give it to us."

Couple things.

1. It bespeaks to Cain's popularity that the '12 candidates, including Newt, seem so anxious to tie themselves to Cain. Witness this montage of Mitt Romney praising him in a debate.

2. BUT.... their praise of Cain shows that no one really fears him. Do you think Michele Bachmann would spend a debate, saying "Governor Perry and I"..... do you think Perry would look glowingly at Romney and say "Mitt and I"?
