TEXAS: Cain ties Perry

In a new University of Texas/Texas Tribune poll, Herman Cain is locked with Rick Perry in the state Perry governs.

TEXAS primary:

1. Herman Cain 27%

2. Rick Perry 26%

3. Ron Paul 12%

4. Mitt Romney 9%

5. Newt Gingrich 8%

6. Michele Bachmann 2%

7. Gary Johnson, Rick Santorum, Jon Huntsman 1%

Perry's job approval is just 39%/44%, but Barack Obama's is even worse at 33%/57%.

That being said, Obama runs surprisingly strong in general election matchups. He only loses to Romney by 2% there (34%-36%), Ron Paul by 5% (33%-38%), and Cain by 5% (35%-40%).
