Fox host Gretchen Carlson asked John McCain the surreal question on Fox & Friends this morning.
CARLSON: Do you think that that's a good idea -- to have Donald Trump moderate a debate?
McCAIN: I think that's a decision that the candidates need to make rather than me -- I'm not ducking it. It's their decision.
But I do believe on December 27, on an obscure network, I wonder if that is the best of candidates' time.
I think they should be resting up over Christmas and the next few days; then be ready to go right after the first of January.
CARLSON: But if you were running for president, would you say "yes" to it?
McCAIN: I don't know. I think I would have to be in that position to make that decision, but I guarantee: there are too many debates.
The debate is scheduled for December 27, and so far, Ron Paul and Jon Huntsman have opted out, while Newt Gingrich and Rick Santorum have opted in.
