Romney responds to Baier interview

Mitt Romney on Fox & Friends today, responding to fall-out from his rough Bret Baier interview this week.

KILMEADE: I gotta ask you, too, about the last time we saw you on Fox with Bret Baier and afterwords he said that you reportedly weren't happy with the way the interview went, the direction it went, the questions.

Do you want to expand on that?

ROMNEY: I just wanted to spend more time, talking about the big issues of the day.... it turned out to be a pretty good chance for me to talk about some of the attacks that are coming from the Democrats, and so all-in-all, I think it was a pretty good opportunity.

DOOCY: Sure, Bret told Bill O'Reilly that you seemed irritated, you said the interview was overly aggressive and uncalled for.

And Bret Baier went on to explain that there were a lot of issues out there right then, and one of them was RomneyCare, which some feel is one of your biggest vulnerabilities, and he was just giving you a chance to respond to it.

You weren't expecting just a softball interview, were you?

ROMNEY: Of course not. It turned out to be a good opportunity to talk about, you know, the mud that's being thrown by the Democrats, and I got the chance to bat back some of that, so it worked pretty well.

Notice that he talks twice about the "mud" the "Democrats" were throwing.

Yes, Democrats are attacking him, but so are conservatives, and for exactly the reasons Baier articulated in the interview.

If you remember, Baier said that Romney was upset after the Wednesday interview, which featured a few uncomfortable grillings.
