Romney dismisses role of advisers in Florida surge

Matt Lauer presses Mitt Romney on the Today Show over a New York Times report, in which Romney's advisers openly boast of the success of their negative blitz in knocking Newt Gingrich down in Florida.

LAUER: What surprised me about the article -- one was that so many of your advisers were willing to speak on the record about tactics that you may have to continue using.

And two, if you read it, it almost paints the picture that your momentum shift here, your turn-around in the polls is the result of their diabolical brilliance and less about your connecting with voters in Florida.

ROMNEY: Well, I think you can expect advisers to think that the work of advisers is very, very important, but frankly, I think if you're to go back and look at where the sentiment changed, it was with the debates.
