Santorum defends Romney over firing comment

On Fox & Friends this morning, Rick Santorum shrugged off Mitt Romney's firing comment.

"When I heard this comment, I said 'That just doesn't sound right to me'.

And I wasn't going to take the bait of the reporters. You know, you're walking through a crowd, reporters are throwing lines at you -- What do you think, Mitt Romney said this'.

I just said 'You know what, I'm just going to wait and hear what the full context [was]'

.... Did he say it articulately? No. But it was pretty clear what he meant, and I'm not going to play gotcha politics. I don't want people to play it on me, and I'm not going to turn around and play it on anybody else."

Earlier this morning, Newt Gingrich also defended Romney over the controversy.
