Newt Gingrich on Fox News this morning, talking about how he veered into angry, little attack muffin mode (as coined by Peggy Noonan).
Gingrich:
"I got tied into $20 million of negative ads by Romney in Florida, and I responded by behaving too much like a normal candidate.
I think twice I've led the race as a front-runner in national polls -- both times it's big on big ideas."
Admitting that you have a problem with self-discipline doesn't solve it, and Gingrich lost self-control at the moment he needed it most.
