On Fox News, he shares the note he sent Newt Gingrich after his big loss in Florida last night.
"Congratulations. It is now a two-man race. Get some rest. Give me a call. Let's talk strategy."
I'm not sure if talking strategy with Cain is a great idea, although I'm sort of conflicted about it.
On one hand, Cain was an astonishing overachiever in the race; on the other hand, he ran an awful campaign. Those seem incompatible. After all, the word "overachieve" implies good performance, and that's got to be the rubric by which a "good campaign" is measured.
You can run an awful campaign and "achieve", but that word "overachieve" can't really happen without a good campaign.
