The Hill's Cameron Joseph on a curious move this morning.
The morning after losing three states to Rick Santorum, Mitt Romney's campaign sent out an email blasting Newt Gingrich for his calls for a moon colony.
.... But after losing all three states, Romney turned his focus back on Gingrich in his first attack.
"Speaker Gingrich just doesn’t seem to get it," said Romney spokesperson Amanda Henneberg. "Our staggering national debt and recurring deficits are jeopardizing America’s fiscal future — yet he attacks critics of his moon base proposal for being 'cheap' and 'stingy.' Combined with his record as the 'granddaddy of earmarks' and his past criticism of fiscal conservatives, it's not surprising that his campaign hasn’t left the launch pad."
We'll have to see if he pivots to Santorum or not, but one thing to keep in mind is that Mitt might be trying to keep Gingrich from popping back up if Rick and Mitt descend into trench warfare.
