"Absurd!" Santorum hammers Rush over demeaning comments

On CNN today, Rick Santorum whacked Rush Limbaugh for calling a law student a "slut" over her congressional testimony on contraceptives.

"He's being absurd, but that's you know, an entertainer can be absurd.... He's in a very different business than I am."

Santorum is admirable for condemning the comments , but it's disappointing that presidential candidates are even expected to answer for or against comments from a radio talk show host.

It's even more remarkable that Barack Obama (the President of the United States and most powerful man in the world) got involved earlier today in an example of very smart but cynical politics. Fighting Rush is a perfect proxy war for battling the GOP and an easy, cheap foil. To further reveal the politics behind it, he's chosen to involve himself in, not surprisingly, a woman's issue when the demo is being hotly pursued.

This was the type of corrosive dialogue between sides that Obama was supposed to transcend when he ran for president in 2008. Now it appears he's running for reelection, in part, on being party to the ugly dispute.
