Santorum edges Romney in Alabama

For rare, non-Nick Saban reasons, the eyes of the country have turned to Alabama, where a new poll shows Rick Santorum leading in the race for the March 13 primary.

Alabama State University survey:

1. Rick Santorum 22.7%

2. Mitt Romney 18.7%

3. Newt Gingrich 13.8%

The reason Ron Paul didn't make the list is because the university didn't ask about him, which means lucrative sales of Alabama State apparel will be hit hard.

As for trends, Santorum is clearly becoming the anti-Romney.

Five weeks ago, Newt led the race, but the since then, Rick's inhabited his spot and "almost completely at Gingrich's expense."
