After endorsing Mitt Romney today, Mitch Daniels got the inevitable question about the metaphoric tomorrow.
FOX HOST KILMEADE: Governor, would you be the number two if asked?
DANIELS: It won't happen, so we won't take the audience's time with it, but I'll be glad to be a number 22 or wherever I can fit in in terms of supporting a winning campaign.
Daniels has been saddled with the reputation of being a squish on social issues, thanks to his call for a truce (also a "mute"!) on them until the debt thing gets worked out.
But if evangelicals took a closer look, they'd find that he's a very devout man with a very conservative record on social issues (also, read this interview with the evangelical magazine, World).
Having said that, the truce is probably a pretty big strike against him if Mitt wants to galvanize doubtful social cons.
