Santorum: Romney is "absolutely" the right guy

You can only go so long without endorsing someone if you publicly support their cause for president.

Rick Santorum tried pulling off the untenable combination last night on CNN.

PIERS MORGAN: Is he [Romney] therefore the right guy?

SANTORUM: Yeah, absolutely. He's the person that is going to go up against Barack Obama, it's pretty clear, and we need to win this race.

MORGAN: That's an endorsement, isn't it? That's not mishearing things. You just endorsed Mitt Romney.

SANTORUM: Well, if that's what you want to call it, you can call it whatever you want. Look, I believe he's going to win the race.

Morgan then turned to Santorum's wife, Karen, and wondered whether that wasn't an endorsement. She said "no, it wasn't."

NBC's Mike O'Brien reported yesterday that Romney and Santorum will huddle on May 4, with an endorsement, presumably, to follow, at some point.

Rick's diva act in all this has diminished him considerably, and Tom Fitzgerald recently wrote the headline of the month, "Santorum wants to be seduced."
