Sununu: Ayotte has a Northeastern problem

With Mitt Romney hitting up New Hampshire tomorrow, his surrogate, John Sununu, talks to John DiStaso about potential running mate, Kelly Ayotte.

[Sununu] said he had “no inside information” but said Ayotte has many “pluses.”

“She's a solid conservative, she's right on all the issues and has shown that she understands what has to be done to balance the budget,” Sununu said.

He said that being from New Hampshire “may, in an odd way, be her biggest problem because with two people from the Northeast on the ticket, you don't gain anything geographically.”

This isn't the first time Sununu's warned about geographic uniformity.

Earlier this month, he told Robert Costa:

“If it’s Romney, you will not have a vice-presidential nominee from the northeast,” he says. “Geography is a factor. You don’t want to be accused of being so parochial that you can’t even look outside of your own backyard.”
