Crossroads GPS hits Obama on debt

The second, but less vocal, component in Mitt Romney's case against Barack Obama revolves around the debt and deficit, and a new ad by the Karl Rove-backed group, Crossroads GPS, reflects that.

CNN reports that the group will spend a hefty $7 million on the ad over the next two weeks in Virginia, Colorado, Iowa, Florida, Michigan, New Hampshire, Nevada, North Carolina, Ohio, and Pennsylvania.

It's a pretty good angle for Romney.

His strongest issue against Obama has consistently been the debt/deficit -- a good example comes from NBC's polls of Iowa, Colorado, and Nevada last week. In all three states, Romney had a double-digit lead over Obama on the debt/deficit (+18% in Iowa, +13% in Colorado, and +11% Nevada).

The strategy is also a way of diversifying his case, lest the economy start looking better (which isn't guaranteed, at this point). Also, Europe and its fiscal woes will remain a concern to U.S. voters, and Romney will try to capitalize on that.

Here's the spot.
