Poll: Obama gaining with his base

A new Democracy Corps poll shows Barack Obama leading Mitt Romney, 49%-46%, and it seems that he's doing it by consolidating his base.

Josh Kraushaar (emphasis added).

Obama's gains, notably have come from what the pollsters label the "Rising American Electorate - young voters, unmarried women, African-Americans and Latinos. Obama's vote share increased three points from 60 to 63 percent in the past month, and gained 7 points with African-American voters (from 88 percent to 95 percent). Obama now leads slightly among independents, 46 to 44 percent.

Obama has spent the last two months working to galvanize his base, and you can probably trace some of that galvanization to his gay marriage decision (a plus for young voters), immigration announcement (a plus for Latinos and young voters), and continual outreach to single mothers and unmarried women.
