A new We Ask America poll of Michigan confirms it's a much closer race there than anyone was predicting.
Mitt Romney edges Barack Obama, 45%-43%, and has reduced the gender gap to a winnable size. Obama picks up women, 45%-42%, while Romney takes men, 48%-41%. The president's lead among women sounds suspiciously small.... we'll see if it holds up.
Obama now holds a 4.2% lead in the RCP average of Michigan polls, and two of the last four surveys have shown Romney leading.
Meanwhile, Scott Conroy notes that the heavily Republican area of Western Michigan is the only area in the state that hasn't had a population loss since 2008.
That's a rare case of a friendly demographic change for Romney.
