White support for Obama slips below 40%

Gallup notes that Barack Obama's current support with whites is considerably off his 2008 performance, dropping from 44% to 38%.

The table, via Gallup.

The poll also found that Obama has slipped from his 2008 performance with every white subgroup.

Here's the bloodbath.

a. 18-29 year olds: -9%

b. 30-49 year olds: -5%

c. 50-64 year olds: -6%

d. Seniors: -6%

e. Men: -7%

f. Women: -6%

g. Women, post-graduate: -9%

h. Women, non-post-graduate: -5%

i. Men, post-graduate: -5%

j. Men, non-post-graduate: -8%

k. Non-married men: -12%

l. Non-married women: -7%

m. Married men: -4%

n. Married women: -3%

0. Less than $24K/year: -9%

p. $24K-$60K/year: -9%

q. $60K-$90K: -3%

r. $90K or more: -3%

Obama has also lost ground with white Protestants, white Catholics, those with another religion (-12%), and those with no religion, at all (-10%).

That being said, Gallup does note a sliver of opportunity for Obama.

.... the decline among his core 2008 white supporters could make these the easiest groups of voters for him to win back -- something the Democratic Convention this summer and Obama's fall campaigning will no doubt strive to do.
