Interesting, little study from Mashable.com.
The site took the following Twitter hashtags, #Romney2012, #Mitt2012, #Obama2012, and #Barack2012 and analyzed tweeters by gender, age, income, education level, and yes, even battleground states.
Some interesting findings.
a. 43% of pro-Obama tweeters were women, compared to 32% of pro-Romney tweeters.
b. Slightly more 18-35 year-olds tweeted pro-Romney tweets than pro-Obama tweets, although every age group was essentially tied.
c. There was no meaningful difference based on income.
d. Romney had more tweeters at state colleges and universities, while Obama almost quadrupled him among Ivy Leaguers.
e. There were more pro-Romney tweets in Arizona, Colorado, Iowa, North Carolina, Ohio, and Virginia.
There were more pro-Obama tweets in Florida, Nevada, Pennsylvania, and Wisconsin.
Some of the margins were incredibly narrow, though.
All in all, a very fun, little peek into the social media game.
