Tea Party Express wants Rubio for VP

The Hill's Alicia Cohn reports:

Tea Party Express, one of the most influential organizations of grassroots Tea Party activists, on Wednesday announced that its members favor Sen. Marco Rubio (R-Fla.) for Mitt Romney's running mate.

Rubio won 66 percent of the vote in the group's internal poll, according to a release.

.... “The next favorites of the Tea Party Express supporters were Congressman Paul Ryan (R-Wis.) and Congressman Allen West (R-Fla.)," Kremer said. “All 27 of the candidates were acceptable to the Tea Party. They just want to make sure we end the big spending in Washington."

Something to keep your eye on as Rubio's national ambitions rise -- will the tea party stick beside him?

He won his famous GOP primary duel with Charlie Crist, thanks largely to the tea party, but as of late, his name is usually mentioned in conjunction with his still-amorphous, alternate DREAM plan -- a position most tea partiers don't like.
