Karl Rove, on Fox News, weighing in on a controversial criteria for picking a Veep.
"Pick a battleground state -- Florida, Ohio, Wisconsin -- and pick somebody from a battleground state, because if a vice-presidential nominee has impact, it's in their home state."
Some have strenuously contested that relying on a Veep pick to swing a home state is a fool's errand.
On the other hand, as fortune and its gracious ways would have it, Nate Silver ran a bunch of simulations recently and calculated that Rob Portman or Bob McDonnell would have the biggest effects on the presidential election when considering their approval ratings back home, as well as those states' influence on the final electoral tally and the ability to swing a state from blue to red.
Silver's list:
1. Rob Portman and Bob McDonnell
3. Brian Sandoval
4. Pat Toomey
5. Marco Rubio
