Last month, Rudy Giuliani endorsed Marco Rubio for vice-president, and he did the same thing on Thursday.
BUT... on Fox News last night, he let slip his real favorite.
"I'd very much like to see Chris Christie -- that would probably be my all-time favorite -- but I'm not sure that's realistic."
That's surprising on number of levels.
1. Rudy had just finished effusively praising Rubio as Veep a few minutes earlier.
2. Christie doesn't seem to be on the short list, but he's much more realistic than someone like, well, someone like Rudy.
Why would Rudy say it's "not realistic"?
Is this actually a slap at Christie -- a very sunny put-down that Christie just isn't quite up to fist tier level?
I only mention that because...
3. Christie and Rudy feuded last year.
Rudy criticized Christie for not being in New Jersey during a holiday snowstorm, and Christie shot back.
"It's easy to sit in the peanut gallery and shoot away, which is what Rudy's doing.
I guess when you're retired and out of politics, it's easy to come on these shows and shoot away."
A few days later, though, Christie dialed back the shots and joked that it wasn't terribly shocking that "two, strong-willed, Italian guys from the Northeast disagree about something."
(Here's Rudy, last night, talking up Christie).
