Approval ratings soar for Susana Martinez

In the first major poll since she addressed the GOP convention, New Mexico Gov. Susana Martinez picks up a stellar 69%/17% approval rating from her constituents in New Mexico.

One measure of just how popular she is? Democrats approve of the job she's doing 56%/24%.

"She's focused on issues that are popular among the voters," said Journal pollster Brian Sanderoff, president of Research & Polling Inc.

.... Approval ratings for the nation's first elected Latina governor were strong in all parts of New Mexico and among both Hispanic and white voters, the Journal Poll found.

Her name isn't bandied about much as a 2016 presidential candidate, but could she be the GOP's answer to Hillary? Martinez vs. Clinton? In the battle for firsts, Martinez would crack one more glass ceiling than Hillary.

Here's her much-praised convention speech.
