Chris Christie, who predicted a huge debate performance for Mitt Romney, takes a victory lap on Morning Joe.
"I just don't think that anybody else was paying attention. I mean, every time in this campaign that Mitt Romney had his back up against the wall and had a debate, he came out and had a game-changing debate. Ask Rick Perry. Ask Newt Gingrich. Every time he's done it.
On Sunday I just came out and said exactly what I believed, which was 'I've seen this guy do this before, and I think he's going to do it again.'
And he did last night."
True, whenever he really needed it in the primaries, Romney was able to uncork a giant debate performance.
But that was against names like Rick Perry, Rick Santorum, and Newt Gingrich. Barack Obama was supposed to be better than they (Newt and Santorum were sharp debaters, but each was cursed with a fundamental flaw that ultimately felled them in the debates. Gingrich was way too grandiose; Santorum was way too verbose).
