Obama TV ad seizes on Big Bird

A new Barack Obama TV ad claims that Mitt Romney wouldn't deal with "gluttons of greed" like Bernie Madoff, but would instead send fluffy charmers like Big Bird to Siberia.

Oof.

This Big Bird obsession -- dude, even Salvador Dali would be saying "Let's get real, guys."

Sure, cutting funding to NPR or PBS is a pretty cheap, conservative applause line and not a solution of any sorts to our budget woes, but Romney's remark was a casual joke. Meanwhile, Obama is pumping money and political capital into the Big Bird thing.

Throughout the campaign, the president has been criticized for not offering much of a vision. Promising Big Bird is a far cry from 2008's promises on unemployment and the deficit.
