Casey Seiler reports on the political machinations surrounding the 55th birthday of possible 2016 candidate, NY Gov. Andrew Cuomo (D).
The governor's campaign committee will hold a fundraiser Dec. 6 at the Waldorf Astoria hotel in midtown Manhattan with ticket prices that start at $1,500 but shoot up to $10,000 (for "supporter" level), $15,000 ("chair") and $25,000 ("host").
In its July periodic filing with the state Board of Elections, Andrew Cuomo 2014 Inc. reported $19.3 million as its closing balance — an imposing cash barricade to anyone who might consider challenging Cuomo in 2014, setting aside for a moment his historically high approval numbers.
Cuomo's committee added $5.7 million in the first half of the year, according to the filing.
Cuomo is up for reelection in 2014. His approval rating hit a stunning 73%/33% rating in July.
