Des Moines Register makes a 2016 list

The story here isn't necessarily in what the Des Moines Register writes, but in the fact they write it, at all.

Less than a week after Barack Obama's reelection, the newspaper crafts a list of the likeliest GOP contenders for president in 2016. As Odysseus said when he finally stepped foot into Ithaca again, "Nice..."

The names are familiar, save for Susana Martinez who makes he way into the top six -- higher than she normally appears on these things. But with the GOP's Hispanic woes, expect to see her in the top tier of lists like these much more often.

Other names in the Register's top tier: Paul Ryan, Marco Rubio, Bobby Jindal, Chris Christie, and Scott Walker.

Names "worth watching: Bob McDonnell, Jeb Bush, John Thune, NC Sen. Richard Burr (?!), Oklahoma Sen. Tom Coburn (?!), Mike Pence, Rick Perry (????), and Rand Paul.

UPDATE: The Register makes a list for Dems, too.

Names in their top tier (as compiled after interviews with top Iowa, Democratic strategists): Hillary Clinton, Joe Biden, Tim Kaine (!), Kathleen Sebelius, Martin O'Malley, Andrew Cuomo).

Names worth watching: Evan Bayh, Mark Warner, Atlanta mayor Kasim Reed.
